King Salmon Fishing - Kenai Alaska

Salmon Catcher Lodge fishes King Salmon in several different locations around the Cook Inlet. First and foremost is the home of the world record King Salmon the Kenai River. The current world record caught by the late Les Anderson of Soldotna is 97 lbs 4 oz. You never know, when fishing the Kenai, when your rod goes down you may be the next world record holder. We fish the Kenai in power and drift boats. Fish in excess of 50 lbs. can be taken from the middle of May until the end of July. The largest fish taken on a regular basis is always during the second run in July.

The second great location Salmon Catcher Lodge fishes for King Salmon is the Kasilof River. The kasilof is just 12 miles from the Lodge. Both wild and stocked King Salmon are taken from May until the end of July. Fish average between 18 and 35 lbs here, but fish are taken every year from 40 to 50 lbs. This is a drift boat only river and the most common method of fishing is back trolling with lures and bait.

The third great location is the Chuit River located on the west side of Cook Inlet. It's just a short 35 min flight on our float plane located on Macy Lake. This unlike the other rivers is fished by wading rather than from boats. We are picked up from the lake we land on by local natives. There is no bait allowed on this river. King Salmon are taken on the fly or spin casting with spinners and plugs. Fish here average 20 to 35 lbs but several fish are taken from 35 to 50 lbs. every year.
